SUMMER - July 2011

LANDON  - {REPORT CARD} - July 2011

oh my! time went way too fast since my last entry. 

Let see... we are on Summer mode at this moment. Very gentle math, reading and writing.

Here is the video of him doing addition and subtraction from his 2nd grade drill Kumon book.

Also we did a bit of writing this week. 2 stories. This is one of them. You can click to make it larger.

He also been promoted to Advanced Beginner for his gymnastics class. This is his first class at this level. My time does not allow me to bring him to boys class. He is approaching to be 6 soon and needs to be placed in all boys class. But for now time wise on my side this cant happen and are letting him be in girls class for now :)

LANDON - WEEK 7 - {REPORT CARD} - Feb 14-18 2011

This week we took half of it for break. Valentines party made all of us exhausted lol

So this week Landon had school for only 2 days.

Singapore Primary Math  1B: 

Exercises 24-29 and 2 pages from Review.  which is addition and subtraction with 2 digit numbers and 1 digit number like 24-5 and 26+7 and such

Starting Unit 12: Numbers 1-40. Grouping numbers into 10s. Tens and Ones (Place Value)

RUSSIAN
We had friendly competition between my 5 year old and my 25 year old friend who is learning Russian too. At first Landon was winning but at the end it was a tie. :)

Level G -5 books.
Normally i would give him 1 book a day and he is reading  that, then finishes comprehenction quiz, then some worksheets that based on the book but that was kid of time consuming for all us so this week we were just reading without side work that need to follow it. Just reading!

P.E

He had Gymnastics class last night :) This is our second month at this gym and i am so glad they took him to Advanced class with older boys in the group. He has been doing gymnastics for a year now at the other gym and he always has been the best in his class but they would not promote him in advanced group for some reason. He never had anyone older and better to look up to. Until now!!! :) I am so happy he has a chance to be in this class. He is progressing so well with this kind of challenge. 


On top of that i LOVE how they have 2 coaches per this group. A week ago they had 2 boys and 2 coaches - LOVELY! :)

Friday, February 4, 2011 LANDON - WEEK 6 - {REPORT CARD} - Feb 7-11 22011

This week Landon really mastered addition and subtraction. He even performed some mental subtraction like 13-9 which made me so happy so see that he is not counting backwards 9 times.

 MATH 

Singapore Primary Math  1B: 

Exercises23-27   which is addition and subtraction with 2 digit numbers and 1 digit number like 24-5 and 26+7 and such

We finished MASS and started on GRAPHS. pp.20-26


Kumon Subtraction 2nd grade drill.
This week he was completing independently exercises 2-4, which is more like 14-5, 13-8. He is really getting things down.

We didnt do much this week.

He finished Steps 6 and 7 which is 2 syllable words and silent E.

LANDON - WEEK 5 - {REPORT CARD} - Jan31-Feb 4 2011

This week showed that Landon is really understanding place value and understanding that in order to add or subtract he needs to bring 1 number to a 10. That is a  very good progress considering he always wants to use "count on" method. He would rather count on 9 in 9+9 rather than bringing 9 to a 10. Now he sees that its easy to find 10 instead. Phew! it was so hard to break this habit. 

 MATH 

Singapore Primary Math  1B: 

Exercises 17-22 which is rounding number to a 10 than add what is left. like 24+7 and such.  He would split 7 into 6 and 1, then add 24+6 to make 30, then he would add what is left, which is 1 = 31.

Whole week was just to practice this. Apart from the Exercise book he calculates everything in his own special Math Journal.

Landon has been reading Russian sentences and translating into Eng. And another way around. He got some words down pretty good. Through struggles with Russian "Where?" word a bit.

LANDON - {REPORT CARD} - WEEK 4- JANUARY 24-28 2011

What a wonderful week it has been for Landon's math. This week he completed THREE Math books and ONE Spelling book! Wow!      

 MATH 

Singapore Primary Math  1A:  COMPLETED!

Singapore Primary Math  1B: 

We have finished Singapore 1A this week and moved to 1B. So far so good. He mastered Place Value like a champ. He finished 17 exercises at his 1B level. and currently working on mentally calculating  1 less vs 10 less,  1 more vs 10 more. 

Singapore (practice) Math 1A: COMPLETED!  

He finished 1A for practice also this week. He did 2 challenging tasks at the end as well. So next week he will jumo into 1B next week.

 

Kumon Subtraction 1st grade -COMPLETED!
Kumon Addition 1st grade-  I think 2 pages left for it.

test time - got 100% for covering all 1A.

completed Units 6 and 7. Ordinal numbers, Problems up to 20, number orders.
Kumon Subtraction 1st grade - Lesson 42
Kumon Addition 1st grade-  Lesson 40

RUSSIAN
We started learning Russian. So far we covered 2 pages. Learned some words and used them in simple sentences like "This is a bus". "Is this a bus?". "No this is not a bus - here is the bus"
Counting and writing in Russian.

SPELLING

Starting Russian language today

Today was a big day for Landon - he has been wanting to start learning Russian for such a long time. Today his  book arrived and without any delays he finished his first lesson. Understanding ,  Reading and  Writing

Spacing between words are going better and better :)

LANDON - {REPORT CARD} - WEEK 1 - JANUARY 3-7 2011

MATH 

I did some changes in his Math routine by adding Singapore Math 1A.
As of today Landon has finished following:
Singapore A1: Unit1 - More and Fewer, Unit 2 - Number Bonds. He also did REVIEW work.
Kumon Addition 1st grade-  Lesson 36 (Column 3)
Kumon Subtraction 1st grade - Lesson 38 (Column 3).
His subtractions with borrowing has been introduced last week and mastered this week.

Also introduced him to Calendar idea.

SPELLING

He finished Lessons 7-11 in Level 1 of All About Spelling.
All  short vowels. S, X, QU. 
So far everything is very easy for him when it comes to spelling.
This week we have been working on spacing words when he writes sentences.

WRITING SKILLS - He started this week and its new material to him.
This week he learned about Nouns, Verbs and Adjectives. Now he can identify them in a sentence.
He is doing Unit 1: "WORDS, WORDS, WORDS".
He completed pages 6-15.

READING:

READING A-Z -Level G -  He read 4 books this week.
This week he has been tested for reading speed - 66  to 113 words per min. Depends on a mood lol

P.E

Gymnastics. He started it again after missing a month of December.
His cartwheels are amazing as always. His roundoffs are getting better.
