TUESDAY May 29 2012

Landon R E A L L  Y wants to learn cursive now days. In kindergarten while all the kids were doing work he would finish his work quickly and would start making his own version of cursive letters. So this time while I have him for a whole summer I think I would just teach him to write cursive. He told me he wants to write books in cursive and cant wait to do it. He knows already several letters in cursive and how to connect them together and he has been doing it in the word "the" he knows how to connect h and e together. But i would rather him do all the work in print OR cursive and not combine 2 styles together. I know he really really really wants to learn cursive so here we come:

CURSIVE Practice #1

WRITING. For several days Landon has been working on this cute story. He is a pretty good speller and can write sentences. This time during summer I want to show him how he needs to organize his thoughts when he writes. He divides his story into 3 paragraphs.
Paragraph #1: Beginning of the story: Setting (time and place), Characters and their goal, Beginning of the Problem.
Paragraph #2: Middle of the story: Problem/Solution
Paragraph #3: Ending of the story:  how he wants his story to end.

May 25 2012 (Friday)
READING: Landon's Reading Contract to continue reading his Raz-kids books.

MATH.
We did Math today, Hands on math cubes helps him to transition to mental math which he did great. He can now mentally regroup the big numbers like 8+7 easily and get an answer. Today his challenge was to remember sneaky "1" on top of his column that came from caring over.

Summer came way too soon. Landon had a very good school year at his local Elementary School. He made lots of friends and made some big progress.

READING He went to school reading level H and at the end of the school year he in on L/M according to his teacher but continues reading N books. He is a such a good reader.

For Math I think he slowed down and knows less what he knew before his school year started. But that is ok too :) This summer we will continue Rocket Math and some math drills.

Writing has been progressing.throughout the school year. He learned to add lots of details to his stories. This summer we will work on story structure (beginning, middle, end).

Spelling. Landon is a good speller thanks to "All About Spelling" program. This summer we will be making 1 lesson a week (planning on at least).

Every day we will be doing reading and Landon will be logging it in his Log Sheets. Once a day we will rotate between Math, Writing and Spelling.

We  don't want to spend more than an hour a day for this because swimming , baseball, tennis, gymnastics and friends are waiting for us :)
